HOW I STARTED

After 30+ years of teaching software development at Eastern Michigan University, I collected numerous desktop computers, laptop computers and various other computer parts. Instead of recycling them, I took them apart and decided to make a digital city. Once I got started putting old computer boards together, I envisioned that I can make pictures, sculptures and many other artifacts. My family and my friends liked what I made and encouraged me to continue on. That is how I started my Computers Reimagined Design Studio in the basement of our home.

HOW I DO IT

I use primarily old computers and electronic devices like keyboards, printers, routers, etc. I open them and extract all electronic boards and other interesting components. I use those parts as they are or I modify them to fit the intended project. Shapes and colors of those parts are quite limited which represents my constant challenge of how to create one-of-a-kind pictures, sculptures and other art objects. Sometimes I use spray paint to enrich the appearance of those parts.

A sense of creativity in transforming old computer parts into art objects is a driving force of my work. Most of my art objects take many hours or days to complete since it requires searching piles and boxes of parts trying to find the best shape and color that I need for a particular spot.

I recycle all unused parts at local electronics recycling facilities.

WHERE I EXHIBIT

I exhibit and sell my art pieces at the art shows in Tucson area, Arizona.

AWARDS

I have received the First Place in the realism category at the Overlook show named “Treasured” with the following judge’s comment: “Finally! Something about computers that thrills me! Like the most impressive cities, these buildings sparkle with individual surface interest, each perfectly complementing the whole. And, like a jazz symphony, the artist has brought a rhythm to what could have been merely static, symmetric geometry. And I love that smack of red sky!”.

I have also received the Best in Show Overall at the La Encantada Winter 2023 Fine Art Festival.
